So you've finally taken the plunge and started your own business. Congratulations. Now, where do you go from here?

In the past there were a number of fashionable advertising methods. If you just loved making hundreds of phone calls and receiving hundreds of rejections maybe you would have tried cold calling. Or, if you liked sores on your feet, maybe you would have tried selling door to door to get that great feeling of rejection. You'll be glad to know that none of the above is necessary today. Why not? We now have the internet. Since the advent of the internet a small business owner can compete with much larger competitors in terms of utilizing some smart internet marketing methods. In doing so you save money on your advertising budget while putting profits from sales into your pocket faster.

It is very important to create your own website. On the bright side you can now create a really good website without having to mortgage your house. A lot of savvy business people are deciding to join a business which already has its own website. A note of caution here. If you join a business which already has its own website, I would strongly urge you to also create your own website or, at the very minimum, your own lead capture page. It is always a good idea to give away free content to entice visitors to your site. The content must be interesting and useful to the reader. There are several ways to do this. Giving away free e-books that are short, simple and easy to read yet provide valuable content is a great way to attract customers tp your site. Who doesn't like getting something useful and interesting for free? Another method which may work even better is to begin writing a regular free e-newsletter. Submitting periodic free newsletters onlink wth a link to either your capture page or website will certainly bring more traffic to your site. And more traffic translates into more sales.

One of the greatest hidden gems in internet marketing is the use of affiliate marketing. What the heck is affiliate marketing? Once you have your website or lead capture page, you can sign up as an affiliate on other people's sites to refer their product or service to the visitors on your site in exchange for a referral commission. Simply create a link to those other sites on your lead capture page, after you have signed up in the other site's affiliate program of course. Remember there are a number of visitors who come to your site. Some will become your customers and some won't. But you can use affiliate marketing to all those visitors to your site because you have captured their contact information. For those that didn't buy your product at least you are making money from them. And for those that did buy your product, you're simply making more money from them.

No longer do you have to sell your house or your car to fund an advertising budget for your new business. No longer do you have to spend hours on sales calls to people who are not even pre-qualified. The internet, with its global reach, can do your marketing for you. Even if you join a business with its own website, I recommend that you create your own website or at least your own lead capture page. And whether you write free ads for your business online or place free banner ads you are not spending money to advertise. Don't be shy about giving away quality content for free. E-books and e-newsletters will be worth it in the long run by attracting more people to your site. Please don't forget about affiliate marketing.
