Blogging For Dollars

By Teddy L. Paseo

Blogging has been around for several years now, and is more than a fad. Its not only the realm of pimply faced teenagers and internet addicts.

When you get serious about making money online, you will understand the importance of blogging. Web logs or "blogs" at one time were a type of online log book used to share information with the world.

They are still used in that way but many in the business community see blogs as a way of developing true "content oriented" websites. These websites would not only help the business earn money online, but also provide true content and value for people reading them.

The other major reason blogs have become popular with businesses of all kinds, is that they are free to implement. Google's "Blogger" site is free for anyone with a Google account. They provide what amounts to unlimited storage space for all your thoughts, as well as a place to advertise without any cost.

Top online sellers are masters at getting the maximum number of hits on their sites. Blogs are indexed very quickly in comparison to regular web pages. Rapid indexing get them into the SERPS quicker than just about any other type of site.

Many Blogger blogs are indexed within a few days. I have actually seen some indexed with a few hours and the faster your site show up in the SERPS (search engine results pages) the faster you can start to earn money online.

Search engines want text. Its OK to include graphics, the search engines need text, and text is something that you can give them with a blog.

Pumping up your visability in the search engine rankings gets you more hits, and blogs have plenty of "just plain words" for the search engines to read. Now this isn't to say that you should run just a blog without a website. You can go that route, and many successful entrepreneurs earn money online with just a blog that promotes affiliate programs, or Google adsense or other chosen income streams.

One of the best ways to use a blog is for keyword marketing and driving traffic to specific sales or squeeze pages to collect email addresses.

You can use blogs as one accountant I know does and keep your customers and clients informed of accounting strategies, which in turn keeps them reading the blog, and keeps them linking to his sales page where he also provides other services like tax prep, bookkeeping, credit repair, etc. You can use a blog to organize your own thoughts in a format that is accessible to you anywhere in the world. If your planning to earn money online, then you need to keep track of your business objectives. A blog is the perfect format for this.

We have already said that in order to increase traffic, you must increase your rankings in the serps. Blogs are a way of sharing information that people can actually use. They keep returning to your site, linking to your site, using your site. You can continue to offer new services and products in a very natural way.

You can publish your own well written articles, rich in keywords, to your blog. Include links to your favorite sites, and then ask those sites to include links back to you. This also increases your exposure, visibility and page rank.

There isn't much of a limit on what you can do with a blog. You can even add forms to collect email addresses and revue products.

The interactive feature of blogs makes them unique. The comment feature allows others to add content to your blog. Comments are kind of a double edged sword. They can also be used for spam if your blog is not moderate well, so make sure that you keep a close watch on them. That being said, its great to allow others to add content. It keeps them involved and makes your blog grow in an automatic fashion.

Blogs are ideal for the new online business owner. They are set up easily, they are free, they are fun and easy to use and administrate. Programs like WordPress are free. A nice option if you have your own hosting account and want more control.

Some platforms like Googles Blogger are not only free, but can be hosted on Google's system. Free program, free hosting, unlimited content. Blogger blogs can also be hosted on your own system if you wish. I actually recommend this so that you have more control over the blog.
